Collection: Evvy Edinburg

In 1971, after my left brain graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in psycholinguistics, my right brain steered me down Spruce Street to the University City Arts League.  There I started a long-term relationship with clay and with drawing.  I have explored the potential of different clay bodies, surface treatments, and firing techniques by taking classes, attending workshops, and apprenticing with a studio potter. In 1978 my left brain decided to enroll in Temple University’s graduate program in Speech/Language Pathology. While pursuing my degree, I did manage to also sneak in a few undergraduate art courses.

Since then, I have continued to take drawing and painting classes at Fleisher Art Memorial, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Chester Springs Art Studio, Southern Vermont Center for Arts, and Touchstone Center for Arts and Crafts.

Recently I discovered the world of Urban Sketching, a worldwide community of people who like to draw on location “and show the world, one drawing at a time.”  I joined the Philadelphia Urban Sketchers in October 2019 and now enjoy the pleasure of drawing familiar and not so familiar spots in around Philadelphia and especially in my own neighborhood and the Wissahickon.
